What can Publish offer me/my department?
Publish sites have many core WordPress capabilities: basic page building, blogging, media library management, and access to our network’s list of approved plugins (Gravity Forms, My Custom CSS, ZillaShortcodes, to name a few). With a few exceptions, everything you’d expect to see in a typical WordPress dashboard will be available to you for site administration and content management purposes.
As WordPress is a self-publishing tool, you and/or your staff will be responsible for maintaining and updating your site.
Our department (the Office of Digital Communications) provides support for setup, plugin troubleshooting, and any other site-related issues or questions you may have. In addition, our team of network administrators maintains WP core updates, plugin updates, theme updates, and general server cleanup. In a sense, we administer the hard stuff so you won’t have to.
We also provide hands-on training and walkthroughs for those unfamiliar with WordPress: it usually involves bringing a laptop and showing you step by step. If you’re not sure if this platform is right for you and your department, we’re also available for consultation. Feel free to contact us at any time.
All Publish services are provided at no charge to UIC campus units.
